CHAMBER ANNOUNCEMENT

Effective 16th September 2004 on the Chamber’s 28th Anniversary

Ms Helen Qiao, MBA, was appointed to the position of General Secretary of the Australia China Chamber of Commerce and Industry of New South Wales.

This appointment was made with the full support of the ACCCI Board and with the personal blessing of the Chairman of the ACCCI Life Governors, Mr Reg Torrington, at a private lunch in Lindfield on the North Shore of Sydney.

Mr Torrington, as the Chairman of the ACCCI Life Governors, is also automatically the Chairman of the Chamber Board.  He has been a Director of the Chamber (as an incorporated non-profit and voluntary company) since the mid 1980s; first as Chair of the Sydney Western Districts Chapter, then twice as Vice President - International and Senior Vice President, subsequently President in 1989, Deputy Chair - Life Governors 1991-96, and finally Chair- Life Governors 1996 - 2004.

ACCCI maintained a Secretariat Office in Pitt Street, Sydney until December 1989 when it was closed due to the events in Beijing of June 1989.  The Late Laurie Smith BEM was the ACCCI General Secretary from June 1989 till November 1991, when he took on the position of ACCCI Senior Vice President - Commercial.  The President Michael Jones provided the ACCCI Secretariat Office between 1992 and 2002.

Ms Helen Qiao's company, Education Development AusChina, joined the Chamber in 2001 and provided delegation support logistics for 5 visits to China by the President during 2002 and 2003. Her company then maintained an ACCCI Secretariat Office in Pitt Street in 2003 and 2004.
